Ten Estuary Tales : 2011

Project Details
Project Date 2011

If you love the coast, are fascinated by the wildlife of the riverbank or even partial to oysters then we think you'll enjoy Ten Estuary Tales.

Each ten minute piece is a delightful glimpse into a rather hidden aspect of the watery world of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

There are five estauries within the AONB landscape. These are the Dart, the Avon, the Erme, the Yealm and the Salcombe-Kingsbridge estuaries. Together they form part of the distinctive character of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Ten Estuary Tales was commissioned by the South Devon AONB unit as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations, to document and record community life, skills and heritage in the Area. The project is funded by the South Devon Coastal Local Action Group.

The podcasts, created by Soundart Radio, record some of the many individuals who live and work in and alongside these waters. Each one is told in a single voice. The bigger picture is provided by Nigel Mortimer, Estuaries Officer with the AONB unit. Nigel works in partnership with people and organisations to encourage the sustainable use and enjoyment of estuaries.
